Network. Started in 2012, Earthquake Network is a citizen science project implementing a crowdsourced Earthquake Early Warning system based on networks of smartphones. More than 6.5 million people took part in the Earthquake Network project and the network has sent more than 3,600 real time earthquake alerts. In many seismic countries, Earthquake Network is the only alert system open to the public.
Main Features :
– Real-time detection of earthquakes using smartphone networks
– Warning of an earthquake a few seconds in advance
– User reports on felt earthquakes
– Safety check function to locate relatives and friends after strong earthquake
– Seismic data from national and international seismic networks from magnitude 0.0
– Chat rooms to exchange information during earthquakes
– Earthquake notifications via voice synthesizer
– Visualization of earthquakes with augmented reality
– Priority to Chat messages in case of emergency

The Earthquake Network research project is developing a smartphone-based early warning system for earthquakes that can detect earthquakes in real time and alert people in advance. Smartphones are able to detect earthquakes thanks to the accelerometer installed on each device. When an earthquake is detected, users who have installed the application are immediately alerted. With the seismic waves moving at a finite speed (5 to 10 km / s), it is possible to alert the population that is not yet affected by the devastating waves of the earthquake. For scientific details on the project, please see the ‘Frontiers’ at https://bit.ly/2C8B5HI
The Earthquake Detector app allows you to receive real-time alerts of earthquakes detected by the network, manually report an earthquake you have experienced, and chat with others during a seismic emergency. When an earthquake is detected in real time near your location, the app can send automatic SMS and emails to a contact list with your precise location in space. This can be useful for rescue without the need for user interaction with the application. You can also send a help request or you can tell all is well with just one click. The app also displays information about earthquakes detected by national and international seismic networks.
Note that information on earthquakes detected by national and international seismic networks is generally published with a delay ranging from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the seismic network.
